"Don't Change Me Now", a song off Mavis's sophomore album "Only For The Lonely" has lent its name to this CD compilation which was released in 1988 by Ace Records in the U.K. It's basically a collection of Mavis's two Stax solo albums (minus "Until I Met You", "Son Of A Preacher Man" and "Chained" from the debut) plus five previously unissed songs; "Ready For The Heartbreak", "I'm Tired", "Why Can't It Be Like It Used To Be", "Chains Of Love" and "You're All I Need". With the exception of "Chains Of Love", there are no writers' credits on the unissued material. Mavis says she first learned about this CD's existence during a visit to London a couple of years ago.

"They have on the CD 'writer unknown', but 'I'm Tired' and 'You're All I Need', those were two songs I wrote. Since then, I have claimed then, but it will always be 'songwriter unknown' on there. 'I'm Tired' and 'You're All I Need' were intended for my second album. I wanted those two songs to go on the 'Only For The Lonely' album. But I had a problem with Stax when I did that record. They called and wanted half of my publishing. And so I told them 'no, I only have two songs on my own album and I intend to keep 100% of my publishing'. But after I told them that, they wouldn't put the songs on the album. Those songs weren't really finished, I was just like rehearsing really. That's how we usually recorded, I would put my voice down, so the band could play with me. The Staple Singers are not singing, those are some other voices on there. I was shocked when I heard that! What happened was that when Stax folded, Fantasy got all of their product. Stax of course had a lot of stuff on the shelves and what these people did was making a record out of these things that weren't finished! 'Ready For The Heartbreak' and the other stuff, that was left on the shelves and Fantasy just wanted to make money from it. Because those records are selling! 'I'll Take You There' and 'Respect Yourself', has gone gold again since Fantasy's had it. They do send us the checks, well, they've sent parts of what we're supposed to get, they're never gonna send all of it. But the 'Only For The Lonely' album was the last album I did for Stax and that was the reason why I didn't do any more albums for Stax, because I didn't appreciate the way they did that. It was like abuse, you know? And it was disrespectful. I said that's it! They wanted me to do more, but I said 'no, no way'. I wouldn't even have it in writing, because I didn't trust them at all. Anytime someone do me wrong like that and I know I didn't deserve it, then I'm through with that person."
