Sweetback's Album Sleeve Maxwell sings on "Softly, Softly," taken from Sweetback's self-titled album (Epic Records, EPC 485390), released in October 1996. Sweetback is actually Sade, the band that backed up Nigerian born songstress Sade Adu (Helen Folasade Adu). Sade scored with songs like "Smooth Operator", "The Sweetest Taboo" and "Never As Good As The First Time" in the mid eighties. The members of Sweetback are Andrew Hale, Paul S. Denham and Stuart Matthewman. Stuart played sax, guitar, bass and drums, co-wrote and produced "Welcome", "Whenever Wherever Whatever" and "Lonely's The Only Company" on "Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite."

Grover Washington, Jr. Maxwell co-wrote the track "Play That Groove For Me" on Grover Washington, Jr.'s 1996 "Soulful Strut" album (Sony/Columbia 485142 2).

Sleeve of 'RedHot + Rio' "Segurança (Security)" is the title of Maxwell's contribution to "RedHot + Rio", a CD on Antilles Records (533 183-2). According to the sleeve notes, "RedHot +Rio" is the ninth in a series of AIDS awareness and fundraising projects by The Red Hot Organization. "Segurança (Security)" was written and produced by Maxwell and Stuart Matthewman.

Sleeve of 'Love Jones'  An alternate take, a "mellosmoothe " version of "Sumthin' Sumthin'" can be found on "Love Jones" (Columbia COL 487230 2), released in March 1997. "Love Jones" is the soundtrack to the movie of the same name starring Larenz Tate and Nia Long. "Sumthin' Sumthin'" was written by Maxwell and Leon Ware and was remixed by Musze, i.e. Maxwell. Other artists on the soundtrack include Dionne Farris, Refugee Camp All-Stars Featuring Lauryn Hill, Groove Theory, Trina Broussard, Xscape, Brand New Heavies, Kenny Lattimore, Cassie, Cassandra Wilson, Marcus Miller and Me'shell NdegéOcell
